NDIS Pricing Milestone: Minister Sets 2026-27 Support Limits
New NDIS pricing schedules, setting maximum prices for supports in the 2026-27 financial year, have now come into effect. This move marks a significant change, as it’s the first time the Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme has made such a determination.
The new prices took effect on 24 September 2026, according to the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
A Significant Shift: The Minister’s First Pricing Determination
The Minister for Disability and the National Disability Insurance Scheme is now the primary decision-maker for NDIS support pricing. This change, a first for the scheme, follows the new Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Act 2026, with the Minister assuming this role from 27 August.
The NDIA confirmed that its annual pricing review will continue to inform its expert advice to the Minister. However, the Minister’s determination is now the official step that sets the NDIS pricing schedules.
Understanding the New Pricing Schedules
The Minister’s determination establishes the highest amount the NDIS can pay for specific supports during the 2026-27 financial year. These pricing schedules cover a wide range of supports, including specialist disability accommodation, which has its own dedicated schedule.
What These Maximum Prices Mean for You
These new limits primarily apply to participants whose NDIS plans are managed by the NDIA (agency-managed) or by a Plan Manager.
Under these schedules, the NDIA cannot pay a claim that exceeds the maximum price. Similarly, NDIS providers must not charge more than these set limits, and participants are not entitled to funding for any costs above these maximum prices.
Each schedule provides detailed information, listing support item numbers and names. You will also find specific maximum prices tailored for national, remote, and very remote areas.
It’s important to note that the NDIA’s summary pages do not detail individual price changes. If you need a specific figure, you will need to check the full pricing schedule directly.
How These Prices Were Determined
The maximum prices reflect comprehensive guidance from the NDIA, initially published in June 2026. The agency’s advice to the Minister carefully considered several key factors.
This included ensuring the cost of safe, efficient, and high-quality supports, fostering diversity and competition within the NDIS market, and maintaining the long-term financial sustainability of the scheme. These considerations also incorporated recommendations from the annual pricing review for 2026-27.
This annual review is an ongoing process. The NDIA regularly examines supply and demand within the market, compares NDIS prices with other sectors, assesses wage rates and labour conditions, and considers broader economic factors.
For those interested in specific cost breakdowns, a disability support worker cost model for 2026-27, effective from 1 July 2026, is also available on the NDIA’s pricing page.
Finding Related Pricing Information
The NDIA’s pricing page serves as a central hub for various important documents. Alongside the new NDIS pricing schedules, you can find the 2025-26 pricing arrangements and price limits.
The page also includes a bereavement addendum, which outlines the supports providers can claim after a participant has died. Additionally, an assistive technology, home modifications, and consumables code guide, effective since 24 November 2025, is available.
If you’re looking to compare the new NDIS pricing schedules with the previous 2025-26 price limits, both documents are conveniently located on the same page for easy side-by-side checking.
What This Means for You Right Now
The NDIA has advised that participants and providers do not need to take any immediate action because of this pricing determination.
However, the agency plans to publish updated pricing and claiming guidance documents shortly. Providers, in particular, will want to watch for these new resources alongside the NDIS pricing schedules to understand practical implementation.
Have Your Say: Shape Future NDIS Prices
Your input is crucial for the future of the NDIS. Consultation on the annual pricing review for the 2027-28 prices and pricing arrangements is currently open.
This is a valuable opportunity for participants, families, carers, and providers to share their experiences and feedback. Your contributions will help shape future pricing arrangements, ensuring they accurately reflect the needs of those who rely on and deliver NDIS supports.
The consultation period closes on 1 November 2026. You can find full details on how to participate by visiting NDIS Engage.
